Who Can Be Referred?

Referral Profiles for Valor:
Individuals appropriate for referral to the Valor Program typically meet the following criteria:

  • Low to moderate acuity and currently in or at risk of being in the competency system
  • On the waitlist for competency restoration
  • Diverted or released from the court system or state hospitals to better meet their needs
  • Do not require a secure setting
  • Able to engage in and benefit from structured programming
  • Able to participate in community activities or program outings safely with minimal staff oversight
  • Working toward medication compliance
  • May have symptoms that impact daily living
  • Legal charges will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis

Exclusions for Valor:
Individuals may not be appropriate for the Valor Program
if they:

  • Have experienced suicidal or homicidal ideation within the last 90 days requiring assessment or increased supervision
  • Have recently presented a threat to themselves or others (perceived or actual), including self-harm
  • Require a secure setting, restraints, or direct oversight on community outings to prevent absconding
  • Need direct support with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
  • Have high medical acuity that exceeds the program’s capabilities
  • Are currently ineligible to receive benefits in the U.S. due to funding limitations

Note:
If an individual demonstrates any of the above exclusions while at Valor, they will be transitioned to a higher level of care. They may be eligible to return after stabilization.

Valor currently accepts referrals from 45% of the judicial jurisdictions in CO. Valor is actively working on renovations needed to expand our capacity and will continue to add additional judicial jurisdictions as that capacity increases.

Referrals are now being accepted for individuals located in the following jurisdictions:

  • 1st JD: Jefferson and Gilpin counties
  • 4th JD: El Paso County
  • 5th JD: Eagle, Lake, Summit, Clear Creek counties
  • 8th JD: Larimer and Jackson counties
  • 10th JD: Pueblo County
  • CMHHIP/Ft. Logan (regardless of jurisdiction)
  • 12th JD: Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Mineral, Rio Grande, Saguache counties
  • 13th JD: Morgan, Kit Carson, Washington, Yuma, Phillips, Sedgwick, Logan counties
  • 16th JD: Otero, Bent, Crowley counties
  • 18th JD: Arapahoe County
  • 20th JD: Boulder County
  • 21st JD: Mesa County
