What Is VALOR?
Valor supports individuals in the competency contiuum, rebuilding lives across Colorado.
The Valor Program at Embrave is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Valor services adults, 18 yr and older, who are currently in the competency continuum or who have a history of involvement with the competency system. This includes individuals who have been found incompetent to proceed in their legal process, are awaiting competency restoration education, have been restored to competency and need step-down supports until their court proceedings are completed, and those who are at risk of returning to the competency system. Valor anticipates an average stay of 3 to 6 months; however, the specific duration depends on each individual’s needs, engagement in the program, legal considerations, and progress toward stabilization. While Valor does not provide long-term or permanent housing, the program is designed to equip individuals for successful reintegration into the community when that becomes the next appropriate step.
Valor provides 24/7 awake staff support at a staff-secured facility with monitored entry. Services include medication monitoring, in-house daily meals, and personalized programming in an integrated, person-centered therapeutic community. When needed, Valor also serves as an Outpatient Restoration provider. Upon arrival, Valor provides all essential items an individual will need, including a bed, bedding, and basic hygiene supplies. Each residential room accommodates two occupants; single rooms are not available. Individuals are welcome to bring their own clothing and hygiene items. Additionally, Valor partners with supportive community organizations to maintain a clothing closet stocked with items that are seasonally appropriate and available in a range of sizes and gender-specific options. Transportation is provided to Valor, court appearances (when virtual options are unavailable), and justice-related appointments. Additionally, community transportation is available to help individuals meet basic needs and to encourage prosocial activity. Valor can accommodate individuals who require electronic monitoring.
Valor utilizes person-centered engagement to foster a strong therapeutic alliance—an essential foundation for positive outcomes and client retention. When residents feel safe and trusted, they are more likely to share their true thoughts and feelings, which is vital for effective programming.
If an individual is adamant about leaving our community-based program, Valor will not restrain or confine them. Should someone choose to abscond from the facility, appropriate notifications will be made to the referring entity or oversight jurisdiction.
Valor welcomes individuals back if they choose to return and can safely reintegrate into the program, pending any legal considerations that may require their remand.
